Mohali: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday he was sending his Punjab counterpart Charanjit Singh Channi copies of a lakh of “zero” electricity bills and the challenged to show even 1,000 of those bills from his state.
Kejriwal, addressing a rally here, said that unlike his party Aam Aadmi (AAP), which keeps promises such as free electricity, Channi makes “false announcements every day.”
Last year, Kejriwal announced a 100% subsidy for Delhi households that consume up to 200 units of electricity. Consumers of 201 to 400 units received a subsidy of about 50 percent.
The AAP, which is the main opposition party in Punjab, has pledged up to 300 units of free electricity for every household if it wins the 2022 parliamentary elections in the state.
At the rally, Kejriwal presented copies of a Delhi consumer lakh’s electricity bills, claiming they were “zero bills”.
Seventy to seventy-five percent of Delhi residents receive zero-rated electricity bills and there is still a 24-hour supply of electricity, the visiting AAP chief said. in the Punjab.
Kejriwal said he had previously announced that he would return up to 300 units of free electricity to Punjab if the AAP comes to power next year.
Following the AAP’s announcement, Channi claimed that electricity had become “free” in the state, Kejriwal said and asked those present at the rally if any of them did. had so far no electricity bill.
“Did he (Channi) lied,” asked the AAP chief. Kejriwal said that out of 50 lakhs, 35 lakhs electricity consumers in Delhi had not received any electricity bills last month.
“Today I have provided proof that electricity in Delhi is free. I brought a lakh of such electricity bills. Channi sahab can see them. We will send these bundles of electricity bills to Channi sahab, ”Delhi’s chief minister said.
“I want to challenge Channi Sahab to show 1,000 electricity bills in Punjab, which are zero amount,” he said, adding that if people want “zero bill” then they have to make sure that the ‘AAP wins in Punjab.
Accusing Channi of making “false” promises, Kejriwal said the Punjab’s chief minister had pledged five plots of marla for the homeless, but has yet to keep it.
He said Channi claimed the price of sand had been reduced to Rs 5 per cubic foot, but was still sold at Rs 35 per cubic foot.
The Channi government had claimed to regularize the services of 36,000 contract and contract workers in the Punjab, but not a single person was permanent, he said.
“Channi is making bogus announcements every day and no announcements have been implemented,” Kejriwal said.
Earlier, Kejriwal said the AAP’s chief ministerial face for the next assembly polls will be Punjab, amid slogans by some party supporters in favor of the head of state unity. gone, Bhagwant Mann.
When Kejriwal was about to start his speech, an elderly man told him that the AAP’s chief ministerial candidate shouldn’t be an outsider.
“I promise the CM candidate will be from Punjab,” Kejriwal said. Before the AAP chairman could say anything more, some party supporters started slogans in favor of Mann. Then Mann stepped in and asked those waving slogans to listen to Kejriwal.
Kejriwal then told people not to go into any of this and asked if they wanted to get the Punjab back on track or appoint someone as minister or lawmaker.
Notably, Kejriwal said a few months ago that the chief ministerial face of the AAP would come from the Sikh community.
Kejriwal also targeted Channi’s predecessor Amarinder Singh, claiming that the former Punjab chief minister also made several promises but also failed to implement them.
Channi spends a lot of government money on various advertisements and billboards for his fake advertisement, but he does not do any work locally. For this reason, today every section including teachers, employees, farmers, traders, unemployed doctors, nurses are sitting on the dharna and protesting, ”said the head of the AAP.
He claimed that all promises made by the AAP to the people of Delhi have been kept. While in Punjab, Congress and the Akalis (Shiromani Akali Dal) had promised a lot to the people, they did not provide any facilities after the formation of the government, he alleged.
Kejriwal said, “We have guaranteed free electricity to the people of Punjab, 24 hour uninterrupted power supply, opening 16,000 mohalla clinics, donating Rs 1,000 per month to women, improving the school and education system, building good hospitals and eradicating corruption.
“With the formation of the AAP government in Punjab, all guarantees will be met at all costs,” he said.
He called on the people of Punjab to give his party a chance, saying they have already given Congress and Akalis a chance.
